How Twisted Sisters Came to Be

In late July of 2024, cousins Katie and Liz decided to join forces and breathe new life into Katie’s existing bubble tea shop, Owl Tea. What started as a simple rebrand quickly grew into something much deeper—a family collaboration, a fresh start, and a vision rooted in love, resilience, and community.
 

By August, Liz had packed up her life and moved to Cincinnati, not just to help with the shop, but to build something beautiful alongside her cousin. Together, they began raising their kids under one roof, supporting one another through life’s unpredictable moments, and slowly transforming the tea shop space into a colorful, cozy haven. The building had its quirks—plumbing issues, uneven floors, never-ending repairs—but the dream remained.
 

While Katie ran the day-to-day, Liz continued working as a nurse, stepping in to learn the ropes of running a shop whenever she could. Everything shifted again in April 2025, when Liz’s mother had a severe stroke. A talented tile artist and former personal chef, her mom moved in with them and became part of the heart and rhythm of the shop’s story.
 

The name Twisted Sisters’ was born from a night the family spent together—Katie, Liz, Katie’s sister Jess, and their mom Kayleen—commemorating the one-year anniversary of Hayden’s passing, Katie’s brother. It was a night filled with love and laughter, and it sparked the idea that they could turn pain into purpose, and a storefront into something magical.
 

Today, Twisted Sisters: Bubble Brew & Bakery is more than a tea shop. It's a vibrant, inclusive gathering space where everyone is welcome. A place for artists, intellectuals, and neighbors to sip, connect, and create. We plan to host local art, dream up community classes, and continue to renovate with one goal in mind: to give back.
 

As we grow, Liz is also laying the foundation for a nonprofit called Reclaim Eden, dedicated to community healing and empowerment. It’s all part of the same vision—creating spaces where people feel safe, inspired, and supported.
 

We’ve had setbacks. We’ve had triumphs. But through it all, this has been a journey of love, transformation, and unshakable sisterhood. And we’re just getting started.
